After last week's big numbers, anything I did this week was going to feel like a let down. I was hoping to put in more run miles this week but didn't end up going out after my swim today. We are in the process of getting our home ready to sell and there was just too much to do. The weather turned cold this week (30 - 40 degrees) with some rain. I took advantage of the only good day (Thur) for a ride with Jess Hatch. It felt good to get in two long swims. I made my reservations to go out to St. George on April 10th to pre-ride the bike course. I'm hoping to have Rich, Stan and Greg Hoole join me for this ride.

HUGE week on the bike! I was able to get in three killer rides (50 miler - solo out to Sterling and Wachusett Reservoir on Tuesday, 60 miler with Jess Hatch on Wednesday down around Sudbury, Wellesley, Dover, Holliston, Hopkinton loop, and a 90 miler this morning with Jess Hatch, Marko Zatylny and a bunch of Marko's Ropes & Gray colleagues - Sudbury, Wellesley, Dover, Sherborn, Needham, Concord, Sudbury). The weather has been spectacular - mid 60s! Today reached 67 degrees. I felt good on Tuesday, sluggish and sore on Wednesday, but felt great today. Doing 90 miles was a huge confidence boost going into the final stretches of my training. Only 40 days left!! I have noticed my weight is gradually creeping upward. I'm doing fewer, but longer workouts. I'm finding myself consuming a lot more calories and am convinced that the key to weight loss is shorter but more frequent workouts. Exercise and keep your metabolism going, but don't go overboard and push yourself into famish mode. Anyway, I'm thrilled with this week's results. I do feel the need to put in some more serious run time over the next few weeks. My 8 - 12 mile runs just aren't going to cut it. But in the meantime, it's good to be back outside on the bike.

Absolutely, positively lousy week! Pathetic. While the week started out okay with a short bike ride before heading to Cincinnati on business and then a nice run around downtown Cinci, the wheels fell off from there. I had early morning meetings on Wednesday and then ended up getting sick (again!), wiping out the rest of the week. Hoping to rebound next week. I'm also looking to get out to St. George in early April to ride the course one time before the actual event. More to come on that trip. Rich Goode emailed me yesterday saying that his employer (Cook Children's Hospital) is going to sponsor us with new tri uniforms which is sweet. The countdown continues. . .

Another great week. Not as big as last week, but still good. I was able to get outside for two bike rides. The first one in Dallas while I was there for work. I went out Tuesday afternoon with Rich Goode. This ride was actually quite depressing. I was hoping to do 70 or 80 miles, but ended up calling it quits after 55. My quads were totally thrashed. At first, I thought it was because I haven't been riding outdoors and my indoor trainer sessions just were adequate. However, after having a much better ride today outside, I'm thinking my problem possibly had to due with the fact that I rode Rich's friend's bike and didn't adjust the seat down to my height. It was just a tad too high, but enough to cause me to overwork my quads. At least that is the theory I'm going with. Rich rode strong and looks like he is on track to do well at the Ironman. We got a glimpse of Spring today with sun and 55 degrees. It was a great day to get outside for a brick workout. Heading to Cinci again next week (Mon - Wed).
